New parking stickers will make it easier for security guards to identify parking violators.

Starting Sept. 15, ticketing has begun for all illegally parked and unregistered cars. For the first two weeks of school, students were granted a grace period and instead of receiving tickets, courtesy notices were issued. Now, security will be strictly enforcing the rules.

While some students may be upset with the crackdown, others including ADD SOMETHING

According to John Gildard, head of security, campus parking includes approximately 900 resident parking spots. Permits for all of these spots were issued prior to the beginning of the school year. All those who did not receive campus parking were issued parking stickers for Beck Place. A final number of how many permits were issued to non-commuter students for this lot is not yet available. In addition, according to the numbers available through security, nearly 1300 commuter students received parking permits.

Brian Beck, resident of Lower New Townhouses, is unhappy with the way parking permits were assigned this year. Although Lower New has its own parking lot, and is right near Riverview lot, Beck was assigned a parking pass for Beck Place.

"Why should I have to park across the street from my dorm when underclassmen are able to park right behind it?" Beck said. "They should not be given the privilege to park in Riverview before I am."

The parking sticker has undergone a few significant changes since last year, including a reduction in size, a change in the type of sticker material being used, and the layout and grapics have also been modified.

According to Gildard, this year's parking sticker, which now gets placed on the outside of the rear driver's side window has many added advantages.

"Last year one of the issues we had was that students were being ticketed at night because the permit could not be seen through tinted windows," Gildard said. "We also got complaints about the size, so we wanted to make it more aesthetically pleasing."
