CANDY! Now I knew that intro would draw you in. A Marist student's love of all things sweet is what keeps the Cabaret open until midnight and the vending machines well stocked. As if candy wasn't enough of an appeal, add the word 'bar' to any location's name and you have instant campus cred. It seems that Dylan Lauren knew all of this when she opened up a chain of stores called Dylan's Candy Bar. Being the daughter of upscale preppy designer Ralph Lauren, Dylan knows class. Her Manhattan candy shop refuses to only sell the simple fare of jumbo rainbow lollipops and foil wrapped chocolate kisses. Instead, Dylan opts for yellow and orange ducks made out of rich white chocolate, gummy candies in Chinese take-out tins, and a yard long tube of multi-colored gumball goodness. With 4,000 different kinds of candy and 300 different kinds of ice cream Dylan's Candy Bar is a palace worthy of King Wonka himself. At Dylan's every customer is awed at the vast display of merchandise. From the 21 towers of M&Ms to the army of chocolate bunnies, every ounce of candy has been carefully designed and chosen. Even the steps are filled with gummy bears and skittles. Dylan sticks to her roots with a fashion line that accompanies the store. The lower level is devoted to clothing featuring candy bars and beauty products that taste like them. Dylan didn't miss a trick in making a visit to her store an exciting spectacle. The cavity warehouse resides at 1011 Third Street (for other locations see Dylanscandybar.com) right across the street from Bloomingdales, and a colossal H&M for us poor college students, which provides a wonderful day of shopping and munching.
