After a scoreless fourth quarter, the Fordham Rams held on to a four point lead to hand the Red Foxes their fifth loss of the season in a nail-biter on Saturday at Coffey Field in the Bronx. In a contest that could have, and should have, come out favorably for the Red Foxes, it became a battle of the defenses.
The Red Foxes volleyball team smoked the Peahens as it completed the season sweep on Sunday, winning 3-1 and earning its first road win in the 2006 season. The final score proved Marist was a stronger team despite a weak third game, winning 30-25, 30-21, 27-30, 30-18.
The quest to defend the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship began for both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams on Saturday in the Red/White Challenge. This competitive inter-squad match was the first match of the season for the Red Foxes.
The Marist Red Foxes were defeated by the Loyola Greyhounds Sunday 2-0 despite yet another impressive first half. The Red Foxes held perennial conference power Loyola to no shots in the first half and controlled play while registering three shots of their own.
Sarah Domermuth led the Marist Women's Cross Country Team to a seventh place finish at the University of Albany last Saturday in the team's final meet before the MAAC Championship on Oct. 27. With a time of 18:57.1, Domermuth led the Red Foxes by placing 21st.
Huck Correia Football, Senior Correia was named defensive player of the week by the MAAC offices on Monday. He had a team high nine tackles and one interception in Marist's 13-9 loss to Fordham on Saturdya. Correia is tied second on the team with 47 tackles.
