The Red Foxes volleyball team smoked the Peahens as it completed the season sweep on Sunday, winning 3-1 and earning its first road win in the 2006 season.

The final score proved Marist was a stronger team despite a weak third game, winning 30-25, 30-21, 27-30, 30-18.

Head coach Tom Hanna said beating St. Peter's twice is a big confidence booster as they await the arrival of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament.

"I think knowing we've done it already will be an important confidence booster," he said. "I would like to see us string together two or three MAAC wins in a row. We've got a streak of matches of teams we have been competitive with, including Loyola and Rider, to build off the St. Peter's win."

The visiting Red Foxes had two players post double-doubles - freshman Alexandra Schultze and Jaime Kenworthy. Senior middle hitter Sally Hanson also posted double-digit kills to go along with an excellent serving game which included five aces.

Hanson also posted her 1,000th career kill over the weekend, making her the second Marist player to reach this milestone this season and in school history.

Coach Hanna said this is an incredible milestone in the program's history.

"It's amazing that you have two kids do it in such a short time frame when it hasn't been done in the history of the program," he said.

Kenworthy posted a match-high 22 kills and 12 digs while hitting .231. Schultze had an equal number of kills and digs, tallying 15 of each.

On the defensive side of the ball, senior Stephanie Miksch had 24 digs to lead the Red Foxes and the match in that statistical category.

The Peahens were headed by Serra Soylu who led the team with 20 kills and India Walker who added 15 digs in the losing effort.

Marist will continue its MAAC schedule with the second game of a five-game home stand against Loyola (MD) on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the James J. McCann Center field house.

Last time out against the Greyhounds, the Foxes fell in five games after leading the match 2-0.

Coach Hanna said the difference between the win and the loss will be earning points.

"It's a matter of reducing our errors and going out and earning the points instead of waiting for the error to come to us," he said.
