How many times can you make the same movie? Lion's Gate studio answers that question with their latest release, "Saw III." After the incredibly successful sequel, the Jigsaw killer is back for his third gruesome set of games this Halloween. However, with his health compromised because of cancer, the deadly games take on a different twist and the stakes are even higher.
It's useless to review the "Saw" series in the traditional approach of this column. The acting and cinematography are mediocre at best and not worth discussing. "Saw III" is a film that needs to be taken for what it is - a movie meant to startle and disturb, and in this context it does very well.
"Saw III" deviates in one way from its predecessors in that it seeks to be more of a psychological thriller. In attempting this, its dialogue becomes rushed in an ultimate quest to fulfill its surprise ending which have become a standard to the "Saw" series. The blood level is about on par with most other "Saw" films and the torture devices certainly show influence from the Spanish Inquisition, making this a holiday for gore fans.
"Saw III" is not a great movie. Don't go to see it expecting your mind to be blown. The film is fun to see leading up to Halloween if you want a good scream but I wouldn't recommend it after October 31st. Just steal your friends copy after it comes out on DVD.
