On Dec. 8, 2007 MTV2 announced Halifax the winner of the MTV2 Dew Circuit Breakout Finale. The pop-punk band from Thousand Oaks, CA competed against Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer and Fallen from the Sky at MTV's Times Square Studios for the hearts of fans across the country.
Originally six bands from across the country were chosen to compete in a series of competitions that would culminate in a live performance at MTV's Times Square Studio. The winner was determined by viewers' votes online.
For the finale the top three bands, Halifax, Fallen from the Sky, and Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer, performed one original song and one cover song live in front of a studio audience.
The bands' covers were critiqued by Dashboard Confessional's Chris Carrabba, Virgin Records President, Jason Flom and Alternative Press writer, Leslie Simon. However, ultimately the fate of the bands lied in the fans at home, who had already voted for their favorite band and were patiently awaiting the announcement.
Each band played one original song and one cover song. Fallen from the Sky's hardcore style was overwhelming in "Paradise Fire," but these Floridians really let loose with an unexpected cover of Beyonce's "Ring the Alarm." "It was insane," Leslie Simon said. "It made total sense."
Philadelphia's own Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer performed a catchy pop-punk number, "Moment." For their cover, Zolof choose Panic! At the Disco's "Lying Is The Most Fun You Can Have Without Taking Your Clothes Off," and afterwards Chris Carrabba said, "Panic! would be proud."
Halifax performed an electric version of their original "Our Revolution," which was followed by an incredibly exciting cover of Fergie's "London Bridge." Afterwards Jason Flom said, "That was the greatest thing that's ever happened in this country, at least since the Democrats won the elections."
"All the bands are great. They definitely deserve it," Rachel Minton, the lead singer of Zolof said after the show.
