Saturday marks what can be considered one of the biggest basketball games this season for the Red Foxes - Marist men versus longtime rival Siena for undisputed first place ranking in the MAAC.
The game will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the McCann center before a game that is already sold out to the general public. Doors open at 9:00 a.m., with a special student entrance located to the left of the athletic center's main entrance. Additionally, student tickets are limited to 850 given on a first come, first serve basic, which may cause some Marist residents to lose a weekend sleep-in.
"I've overheard people discussing camping out to make sure they get tickets," said sophomore Sara Laing. "I'm planning to get up around seven or seven-thirty and be in line by eight at the latest. People are really excited so I think it will be a completely sold out game."
According to senior Stephen Krill, one of the reasons for cutting rest short is the huge fierce competition and tension that exists between Marist and Siena. Despite the early hour, Krill said that the nature of the game is worth it.
"I can't wait to go for two reasons," said Krill. "I love everything about Marist basketball, and I love the Siena game in particular because the energy from the students is unrivaled. It's going to be a different kind of dynamic because this is on a Saturday morning, but the students are going to be out in full force."
One request the Marist Athletics Depart makes of the student body is to wear white shirts in an attempt to 'white-out' McCann for national television broadcast on ESPN2. After the game ends, the Marist Athletics Department will honor the senior members of the men's basketball team in a special ceremony.
