The Marist Red Foxes struggled at the plate and on the mound this past weekend as they were swept by the Le Moyne Dolphins at McCann Field.

After dropping a 10 inning contest, 6-2 on Saturday afternoon, Marist pitching went on to yield 19 runs on 26 hits in the final two games of the series.

The Red Foxes won four out of five games last week, but suffered a major setback after being swept by fellow Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference [MAAC] opponent Le Moyne. The three losses dropped Marist to 7-10 in the MAAC and 11-21 overall.

The Foxes' bullpen struggles were apparent all weekend, but head coach Dennis Healy said no changes were imminent.

"We've been experimenting [with the bullpen] all year," Healy said. "We just weren't able to get anybody out."

In the final round of the three game set, Marist led early and fought back to tie, but eventually succumbed to the Le Moyne offense as the team dropped a 12-6 decision. The Dolphins tallied 12 runs on 13 hits and got a solid performance from starting pitcher Luke Nellis, who improved to 3-1 with the win.

Coach Healy was noticeably frustrated with the team's pitching after Marist rallied several times offensively to come back in the game.

"That's what good clubs do, they answer back," Healy said in reference to the Le Moyne offense. "Their pitching was good, and they got a bunch of hits with two outs. They scored 10 of their 12 runs with two outs."

Starting Marist pitcher, Stephen Peterson, lasted just 3.2 innings after allowing four earned runs on six hits. The freshman fell to 1-3 with the loss. Senior Bobby Hastry replaced Peterson in the fourth inning and yielded three runs in two innings. The Red Foxes' bullpen allowed seven runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings.

The match-up on Sunday pitted two freshman pitchers against each other and Coach Healy said he knew that the team that produced the most hits would ultimately win the game.
