Seniors leave with victory over VMI, miss post-season

Twelve different players tallied points to lead an offensive explosion as the Marist men's lacrosse team finished its regular season with a convincing 15-9 victory over VMI Saturday, on the North Field.
The 15 goals were a season high for the Red Foxes.
With the win, the Red Foxes finished their season with a 6-9 record and 5-3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), which was good for fifth place in the league. VMI finished its season with a record of 2-12 and 1-7 in the MAAC.
Prior to the game, Marist honored six of its departing seniors, Collin Blake, Keith Detelj, Matt Donovan, Bill Kolar, Mike McGuire, and Jim Wiederhold for their dedication and hard work to the lacrosse program over the past four seasons.
The Red Foxes jumped on the board first as junior attackman Pat VanHall scored the first of his four goals at the 14:12 mark of the first period. However, VMI would answer right back with two quick goals to pull ahead 2-1 with 10:14 left in the first.
With the score tied at three, Matt Teichmann tallied his second goal of the first period to give the Red Foxes a 4-3 lead, which they would never relinquish.
After two more VanHall goals in the remaining time in the first period, the Red Foxes found themselves in the driver's seat up 6-3 at the end of the first period.

Hara, and Mike McGuire. VMI finally ended its scoring drought at the 2:25 mark in the second period, making the score 9-4. VanHall scored the last of his four goals right before halftime to up the Red Fox lead to 10-4.
The Red Foxes held the biggest lead of the game at 11 when they went up15-4 at the 4:28 mark of the fourth period. VMI closed out the contest scoring the last five goals to make the final score 15-9.
The Red Fox defense allowed VMI to score only one goal in 47 minutes of action between the first and fourth periods.
Coming into the contest both Marist and Providence were tied for the final spot for the MAAC Tournament. Each had a record of 4-3, but Providence held the tiebreaker in leu of a 13-7 victory over Marist on Apr. 21.
