ESPN News anchor and Marist alum J.W. Stewart will be appearing on MaristRadio.net's "Sports Stop" with Jon White and Mike Muschiano on Thursday November 15 between 6-8pm ET on WMAR 1630AM.

Stewart graduated from Marist in 1993 with a B.A. in Communication concentrating in television, radio, and film.

"Marist taught me on how to become an on air personality through the classes and activities I was involved in," said Stewart. "The education I got at Marist was an essential investment in being successful and getting into the field."

Stewart hosted a weekly sports radio show on WMAR and also served as the sports editor of Marist's newspaper, The Circle, in his senior year.

"The best activities I was involved in on campus were the Radio Club and The Circle," said Stewart. "It was the first experience I had to share my thoughts and it gave me an important stepping stone for my career."

Stewart has returned to Marist on several occasions, including the 2003 workshop "Breaking into Broadcasting" organized by communications internship advisor Gerry McNulty.

"This was a great event because it allowed the students to get advice from people who work in the fields that these students are striving towards, said McNulty "J.W. was the most popular guest because he had a television show on ESPN."

Upon graduating from Marist, Stewart landed a job with the Poughkeepsie Journal covering sports in the area. Stewart soon moved on to work for Cablevision in Wappingers Falls, putting together sports highlights for Army football and other local teams before getting a start with ESPN in 2000.

Ryan Restivo, the AM Station Manager, is very excited to have J.W. Stewart on Marist Radio where he got his start.

"This is a very exciting opportunity for the station," said Restivo. "We are always looking to serve the community with our programming. Bringing alumni back on the air lets current students build connections with people who have succeeded in the industry."

MaristRadio.net offers a variety of programming including Men's and Women's basketball coverage and interviews with top sports personalities including ESPN.com's Matthew Berry and former Mets player/manager Bud Harrelson.

Listeners will be able to tune in to "Sports Stop" by logging on to MaristRadio.net and clicking the 1630 AM link on the top of the main page. Listeners will be able to submit questions to J.W. Stewart by e-mailing SportsStop1630@yahoo.com or calling in at (845) 575-3692.
