The first 16 minutes went relatively well for the Marist men's basketball team. It found itself down just two to Manhattan, one of the hottest teams in the MAAC, with the score at 28-26 in the second game of a women's-men's doubleheader at the McCann Arena on Friday night.

In the final 24 minutes of the game, the Red Foxes hit three field goals.

Just three shots went through the net in 24 minutes of basketball as Marist lost to the Jaspers 61-44. The Red Foxes were an abysmal 24.1 percent (13-54) for the whole game, including an 0-6 from the field, 6-turnover, 2-point performance from leading scorer Devin Price and only 2 points from Adam Kemp. Those two had 23 and 25, respectively, the last home game (a loss to Iona).

"When they extended the court, we just went by them and that was good for us," Martin said of Manhattan's early pressure. "So he made an adjustment where he stopped pressing, he just went back into a zone. The zone just absolutely crushed us, we couldn't get shots."

The Red Foxes were also out-rebounded by the Jaspers 48-31.

"You gotta be a tough dude," Martin said. "You have to rebound the ball, and right now, Manhattan was just tougher than us. We didn't have it, and you can't win games that way."

Chavaughn Lewis led the Red Foxes with 11 points, while Anell Alexis added 10. This marked Marist's fifth loss in a row.

"When you lose a string of games, it's brutal on the psyche," Martin said.

Marist will next host Fairfield on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the McCann Arena.
