Marist Suffers Tough Conference Loss to Canisius

Canisius players senior Jermaine Crumpton,  sophomore Isaiah Reece, and freshman Takal Molson led their team to a 73-67 win over Marist College at the McCann Arena on Friday night.

Marist (5-18, 3-8 MAAC) was led by junior guard Brian Parker, who scored 19 points while adding 11 rebounds. Forward Ryan Funk also chipped in with 13 points of his own in the losing effort.

Marist led by four points at halftime, and the Red Foxes would swell that lead to 11, leading 46-35 with 16 minutes remaining. From that juncture, the game took a sharp turn. In the final 15 minutes of action, the Red Foxes committed 12 turnovers, as the Golden Griffins took advantage of Marist’s miscues.

Crumpton, Reece and Molson made many big plays down the stretch. The Golden Griffins took their first lead of the game with five minutes left and they did not give it up for the remainder of play.

Turnovers were the story of the game for the Red Foxes, committing 24 compared to just 12 for the Golden Griffins. Canisius (14-9, 8-2 MAAC) utilized a full-court press periodically throughout the game, keeping the pressure on the Red Foxes.

The Red Foxes return to action on Sunday taking on defending champion Iona College  at noon.
