Despite the end of the fall semester quickly approaching, the Office of Safety and Security is busy as new reports of break-ins were reported.

On November 13th, there was a report of larceny in which cash was taken from a room in Lower West Cedar.

One fraudulent identification was confiscated on November 14th. On the same day, there was an incident of criminal mischief involving a broken light in Ward Hall and an assault in which one student shoved another student in Lavelle Hall.

Graffiti was also reported on the North End of campus when an athletic field sign was defaced on November 19th.

From November 15th to November 21st, there were four separate hit and run incidents, each taking place in a different lot: McCann, St. Ann’s, Upper West Cedar, and Steel Plant.

As of December 4th, the Office of Safety and Security has received two reports of burglaries in the townhouses on the main campus and one attempted break-in. The latest incident occurred sometime between 3:45 am and 4:45 am on December 4th.

Students informed arriving officers that an individual started to enter their Lower West Cedar townhome through an opened lower-level window by pushing the screen aside. After being seen and confronted by the students the suspect retreated.

According to the students’ description, the suspect in the December 4th incident is a Caucasian male, slender build and wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.

The method of entry, unsecured windows, was the same as the incident reported on November 7th in the Foy Townhomes and the and November 26th incident in the Upper New Townhomes. It was reported that items such as socks, frying pans and electronics were stolen. These incidents have resulted in increased security and law enforcement presence on campus.

The Office of Safety and Security is encouraging students to close and secure all doors and windows, particularly at night. If students see any suspicious behavior on campus, they are being asked to report it immediately by calling Marist Security at 845-471-1822.
