500 Vaccines for Students: Marist Partners with Westchester Medical Center and Dutchess County

Marist has partnered with Dutchess County and Westchester Medical Center, offering 500 Moderna vaccines to students on April 13 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 51 Fulton Street. Appointments are available on a first-come-first-serve basis; students who receive their first dose will need to schedule a second dose 28 days after their first appointment. The college and partners hope to expand the use of the facility as more doses become available.

"This program is a pilot we hope to use to accelerate the distribution of vaccines for college students.  We are very pleased to work with Marist College on this effort, as well as with the other colleges in the county.  We are grateful to all the various partners who have stepped up to help in our mission of getting a shot into the arm of every person who wants to be vaccinated,"  Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said.

Students are required to take an online survey before registering for their first dose, and if they already received a vaccine, students need to upload their vaccination information to Medicat. Students received an individual email on April 8 at noon from Marist with instructions to schedule their appointment.

This program comes with expanding access to the vaccine for a newly eligible population of New York residents over the age of 16. The local partnership offering immunizations to the college community is a step closer to restoring campus life during the pandemic. As of April 8, the college remained on campus pause, with a 2.91% positivity rate and 142 total active cases. Dutchess County, with a positivity rate at 4.47%, has been one of the hardest-hit areas during the pandemic; In New York State with over 1.9 million cases.

The college has been working with the County and WMCHealth since the pandemic began; In March, Marist made facilities available to New York State residents serving as a pop-up vaccination site, and they immunized 3,500 people.

“Vaccination is critical in stopping the spread of this virus, and we are so pleased to be able to offer this on-campus opportunity to our students,” Marist Executive Vice President Geoff Brackett said.

If students would like to register for off-campus vaccination sites, they can find information here.
