Ethan Solury ’26 was recently elected as the SGA President for the Class of 2026. Heavily involved with state and local politics his entire life, Solury, a political science major, has a wealth of experience to rely on and is ready to guide the freshman class through their first year.

Solury has already started trying to make his campaign promises come true. His first piece of business is to create a class-wide Instagram page. “Right now, everything comes through emails, and I know a lot of my peers feel that the email system is very jumbled together,” Solury said. “With this Instagram page I am proposing, it would be a one-stop spot catering towards student activities and getting the word out quickly.”

Solury expressed that he had already implemented this system during his four terms as President at his Connecticut high school and that there was “tremendous positive feedback.”

Solury is also focused on promoting school spirit in general. He has stressed a connection between the students and the student activities office so that all students can develop a stronger bond with their peers and the school itself. To provide a stronger sense of school spirit here at Marist College, Solury came up with the idea of pep rallies to cheer students up, similar to the activities during the first week.

“I know many people enjoyed the first week activities. It was a lot of fun and a great way to make friends,” he said. Solury suggested that the pep rallies could also include the dance team and dance ensemble and use different clubs to entertain the body. “Something simple like that would go a long way, especially if they were planned around exciting times, such as before breaks or big games,” Solury said.

In all, Solury is looking forward to working with the freshman class and speaks adamantly about connecting with them to make their first year at Marist the best it can possibly be. “I want you to know that I’m with you,” he said. “We’re on the same level, and I want to advocate your concerns because I care. I love helping people.”
