Last Wednesday, the Marist College Student Government Association appointed Beatriz Matarazzo '24 as the Deputy Chief Communications Officer. She works alongside the Chief Communications Officer, Amanda DeFalco '24, and assists with all student body matters concerning communications, helping SGA get its messages to the students.

Matarazzo is by no means new to the job. She is coming up on two years in this position and understands the role well. "We are responsible for all inside and outside communication that involves SGA," said Matarazzo. She described that internal communications in the SGA involve encouraging discussions between the different boards. External communication involves sending out messages, especially to the student body. "Whenever there's something new that we have to present to the students, we are the ones responsible [for getting the message out]," said Matarazzo.

The communication aspect is what initially drew her to the role. She is involved in many separate communities at Marist and enjoys enhancing the relationships between them. "Considering that the SGA is the biggest club on campus, being part of it helps me grow all of the other clubs that I'm part of."

When asked about the future of SGA, Matarazzo mentioned the upcoming fall elections for freshmen and representatives. She also points out how many different projects are occurring within each board. Although she is doing as much as she can to connect those boards to one another, she is also focusing on connecting the boards to the students, primarily through social media.

"We work on the graphics; we take care of the Marist SGA Instagram… We have been investing a lot in our social media," said Matarazzo. With close to fifteen hundred followers, the SGA Instagram is an important tool where they regularly post announcements regarding policies, elections and more.

Between now and the fall elections, Matarazzo is helping the other boards prepare and reach out to the student body. Information on the upcoming freshman and representative elections can be found on the SGA Instagram.
