Security Updates for Semester Two

After being back on campus for just three weeks into the second semester, there have already been seven incidences of student misconduct. These incidents range anywhere from drug violations to acts of misconduct against fellow students.

The first incident to occur was on January 15th in Lower Fulton, which was the result of a drug violation with the students later being referred to the Office of Conduct. On January 18th, there were two forgeries of identification, in other words, fake IDs, which were confiscated from underage students, and again on January 21st.

On January 20th there is reported to have been an incident of larceny, or robbery, in that a student removed food from the Donnelly Cafe without paying for it and left. After the food was stolen, the student was later given a judicial referral and sent to the Office of Conduct. On January 21st, one account of criminal mischief was reported as well as one account of disorderly conduct.

With regard to the criminal mischief incident, a window was broken in a Foy Townhouse as a result of a student’s behavior. In addition, near the Foy Townhouses, the order of disorderly conduct took place resulting in a soda can being thrown at one such student by another student. This happened as the perpetrator of the incident threw a can out their window which then struck the victim.

Since the seven events have taken place, security has worked to refer the students to the Office of Conduct or has closed the reports on such incidents. It is important to also remember the available resources on campus that allow students to feel at ease with the level of security. With the SNAP Program, a student-employed division of the Safety and Security Office, Emergency Blue-Light Phones, Marist Alerts, Office Support and many more divisions of security, it is important to reach out to such sources when necessary to keep our campus safe.
