Security Beat: Tame Start to the Fall Semester

Director of Security John Blaisdell explained the details of the few incidents on campus since the start of the semester.

On Aug. 27 and 30, two fake IDs were found and confiscated by Campus Security. Both cases are currently under judicial review.

On Sept. 13, a student reported that their boots had been stolen after being left outside their house in Upper West Cedar. The investigation has been closed as no further information has been found.

While the behavior issues remained relatively tame, Blaisdell explained current and new campus policy changes that students should be aware of going into the new year.

Blaisdell reminds students that “while cannabis has become legal in adjoining states, as well as decriminalized in New York, the possession and use of it on campus is a violation of Campus Policy.”

Additionally, motorized scooters and skateboards cannot be brought into residence halls because the batteries are a fire hazard. It is recommended to use that equipment outside.

Lastly, students, especially incoming freshmen, are reminded of the Good Samaritan Policy. Blaisdell emphasized that if students find themselves with someone in poor health due to alcohol consumption, they should not leave the victim by themselves. He highlighted that students will receive no punishment for contacting authorities to help others in these situations.
