John Blaisdell, Director of Safety and Security, recently disclosed security incidents that have occurred on-campus since the third week of school.

On Sept. 11, a student deliberately broke the campus front gates. The case is now under judicial review.

An incident of larceny was reported on Sept. 19, as a tablecloth was stolen from an event that had taken place near the boathouse. The crime was caught on camera, and the perpetrators have since been apprehended.

On Sept. 26, a student returned to her car in the Fulton/tennis court parking lot to find that someone had broken into her car and stolen her sunglasses from inside her bag. The thief has been caught, and the investigation is now closed.

A student reported on Sept. 27 that they were the victim of a hit-and-run in the Beck parking lot. The investigation is still ongoing, as only part of the perpetrator’s license plate was identified.

Blaisdell also debunked rumors that a naked man was standing behind Foy on the evening of Sept. 12. Initially, when approached, the man in question identified himself as a Marist student with a first name.

Blaisdell explained that the man was eventually identified as a local individual with no retrievable criminal record who simply wandered onto campus from a nearby park while talking on the phone when he was then seen behind Foy and reported as a suspicious character.

The man has been informed that he is not welcome onto the Marist campus. “We can’t have random people wandering around campus for no reason,” Blaisdell said in an interview. “It causes alarm.”
