Although it may not seem like it, the scorching hot days are on their way out as chilly October days roll in. With fashion trends changing daily and the summer season coming to a close, now is the time to start piecing your fall wardrobe together. From classics like a white T-shirt to a chic mini skirt, these are your fall must-haves.

Whether it be fitted or loose, everyone has a plain white T-shirt in their closet. It can be styled with just about anything and as the fall weather approaches, layering is necessary. Paired perfectly under a sweater vest, leather jacket or black mini dress, you can dress this piece up or down.

“I think my favorite fall fashion trend is oversized sweaters and jackets,” said Jen Dorsey ‘23, Student Creative Director of Marist Fashion’s Silver Needle Runway. “Everyone should have a basic colored bodysuit and a plain black oversized blazer.” Dorsey suggests finding these pieces at Abercrombie, Zara and Princess Polly.

Another fall fashion staple is loafers. While some might associate loafers with a school uniform, others find they complete a look. Worn with shin-length white socks and a mini skirt, these shoes will add a sense of professionalism and can change the aesthetic of your whole outfit. You can even grab that plain T-shirt and toss on a jacket to rock a totally different look.

Getting creative with different basics will let your personality shine through. Bringing statement pieces like loud patterns and funky colors into neutral tones and typical must-haves can elevate a look, especially in a season where layering is essential.

A very versatile and easy-to-wear fall necessity is the mini skirt. Available in all different shapes and sizes, from the famous Miu Miu Mini to a denim moment, these skirts can be accessorized to create countless looks. Whether worn with a collared shirt or sweater vest, the options are endless.

Sneaking their way back into current trends are low-rise jeans. Popular in the 2000s, the low-rise look is making a comeback in trousers and cargo pants too. Topping these off with a cropped sweater or knit vest would make for the perfect outfit as the weather starts to drop.

With various aesthetics growing in popularity and older trends resurfacing, fashion is one of the best ways to show your individuality. Expressing your authentic self through clothes that make you happy will make you look good and feel good all season long.
