Pharrell Williams was appointed Louis Vuitton’s new Men's Creative Director on Feb. 14, succeeding Virgil Abloh. Williams started his career as a record producer, rapper, singer and songwriter. However, despite his musical background, fashion forecasters predict that if anyone can fill the shoes of Abloh, it’s Williams.

Abloh was an American designer best known for his work with Louis Vuitton starting in 2018 and his own label Off-White, established in 2012. He took inspiration from music, art and streetwear to create his fashion line before his passing in Nov. 2021 to a rare cancer he had been battling in secret for two years.

Though Williams started as a singer, he is no stranger to the fashion industry. He created his own brands like Billionaire Boys Club, a clothing line and footwear line Ice Cream. Aside from his own brands, he has also partnered and collaborated with other brands including Adidas and Italian luxury fashion house Moncler.

“I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men’s Creative Director. His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter,” said Louis Vuitton’s Chairman and CEO Pietro Beccari in a statement.

Because of Williams’s impact on youth today, the future of Louis Vuitton is in great hands. Williams can keep the fashion house alive, successful and relevant to the next generation of customers for years to come. His first collection will be revealed next June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.
