Smoke was visible at the Marist University campus midday on June 3, 2026 originating from a fire at the Hudson River Psychiatric Hospital. Plumes were visible North and firetrucks could be heard from within and outside of campus buildings. Three buildings from the former psychiatric center were engulfed.

The hospital was built in the late 1800s and was taken out of service in the early 2000s. In 2007, the building suffered a fire due to a lightning strike and in 2018 was the victim of an arson attack.

While initial contact was made by the Fairview Fire Department, units from New Hackensack, Hyde Park and East Fishkill were all summoned to the scene for support. Fire hydrants were lacking in the immediate area.

No member of the Marist community is currently reported as injured from the event. The Marist Circle is ready to update readers as this story evolves.
