Restaurant Week in the Hudson Valley: River Station

Restaurant Week in the Hudson River Valley runs from Nov. 1 through the 14. Tons of local restaurants add special offers to their menu, including the River Station.

As a pescatarian, I decided to try a seafood restaurant so I could more accurately review the restaurant’s specialty, which helped me settle on the River Station.

The River Station overlooks the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie, New York and is only 1 mile from the Marist campus. The restaurant is split between two levels: a bar is on the lower level and the main dining area is on the top level.

The bar looks like a typical bar with dark brown, wooden floors and plenty of seating placed in an open design. The walls are covered in photos, a television and menus.

The upper level is where the view of the river is prominent as every table overlooks the water. During brunch, the atmosphere on the upper level was pretty subdued, but not dead silent.

Before being seated, the restaurant offered all guests a sample of the New England clam chowder. The clam chowder was incredible enough for me to order my own portion, being the perfect addition to my meal. I also tried the Station Nachos without the chicken. The sour cream and the guacamole do help to add flavor to the plentiful cheese.

I was also able to try their Fried Mozzarella, but it was rather bland. It does come in a red sauce, however, in my opinion, that sauce fails to add much flavor to the Mozzarella.

For future dining at the River Station, I would recommend sitting upstairs. Their soups were better than any other item on the menu I tried. The restaurant itself is less than a mile from Marist College which makes it convenient. Overall, I thought that the River Station Restaurant was a casual and joyful experience.
