Students can borrow audio and video equipment from the Marist Media Center, which provides opportunities for professional growth and sparks student creativity.

A dynamic space that drives student success and growth is tucked away on the 2nd floor of the Lowell Thomas Communications Center – the Marist College Media Center.

In addition to being utilized for professional experience, the center provides advanced audio, video and visual technologies, and its goal is to enhance students' educational experience. By organizing the introduction of new classroom technologies, offering and sustaining equipment and supporting multimedia for events and classes, students learn how to use technology effectively and efficiently.

The center provides a wide range of equipment that can be rented, allowing students to put their creative ideas into action in film, radio and photography. Students can gain valuable insights into the professional world of media production while honing their technical skills through practical experience with industry-standard equipment.

One of the best features of the Media Center is its assortment of Netflix-approved cameras. These cameras have undergone a rigorous evaluation process by Netflix technologists to ensure they meet strict standards for image capture quality. This guarantees that students have the resources they need to create content of the highest standard with the ability to capture dynamic range, color accuracy and resolution.

In addition, the center promotes a community of learning and cooperation, rather than merely providing equipment. Student exploration, experimentation and peer collaboration are made possible by drop-in hours and equipment reservation options.

Students taking classes such as photojournalism can work on real projects under the direction of committed instructors, like assistant professor of multimedia storytelling and journalism Jeffrey Basinger, honing their skills and passion for media production.

“They are a great resource for the students, and I would recommend students checking out equipment to practice and become familiar with their options,” said Basinger.

The Media Center is a brilliant example of innovation and student-centered learning as Marist continues to honor its dedication to educational excellence.
