The Marist College Center for Career Services hosted the 2022 Fall Career and Internship Fair this past Thursday, bringing in 25 different companies for students to connect with. This fair was the first one held in-person since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Held in the Murray Student Center, the Career Fair featured well known employers for any major, including the City of Poughkeepsie, IBM and the FBI. While most schools hold a career fair once a year, if that, Marist is able to make one happen each semester. The goal of the Center for Career Services is to assist students with building their resumes, applying for jobs and internships and working on their interview skills.

Mary Jones, the Executive Director of Career Services, helps students reach their career and internship goals as efficiently as possible.

“We do that by helping students early and often,” said Jones. “We love to see students as freshmen so we can help them develop their four year plan and help them throughout their academic experience.”

That being said, the career fair is open to students of any grade. Students were required to register for the event beforehand. They were also strongly encouraged to dress in business casual attire, bring a plethora of resumes and be prepared to pitch ideas to employers. The goal is to make connections, hear about job requirements and hopefully land a position.

With the two career fairs per school year, Marist is able to bring in over 50 different employers to campus. Tom Martinelli is the Chief Content Officer of Content Studio at Martinelli Custom Publishing. Content Studio was just one of many businesses that attended the fair in search of possible interns and future employees. He greeted students with a handshake and offered positions based around digital campaigns, websites, video production, SEO, blogs and other digital positions. Martinelli hopes to find Marist students to work for him, like he has been able to do in previous years.

Not only are new employers dropping in to the fair, but companies return because of the success that Marist and its students have created.

Overall, it is a beneficial event for all in attendance. Those who missed this edition of the fair will be able to attend the next one during the Spring 2023 semester.
