For the first full year since the COVID pandemic began, Marist College will open without masking and social distancing requirements.

Marist ended its mask mandate in February, when the COVID Alert Level hit green, and removed quarantine and isolation requirements in March.

The campus will remain “mask-friendly,” allowing faculty to encourage students to wear masks in class if they feel it is necessary. Marist will provide face coverings to students, faculty and staff who need them upon request.

Marist will continue to require a completed vaccine series and initial booster for the Fall 2022 semester. A second booster shot is “strongly recommended” but not required.

The college will also “strongly recommend” the annual flu vaccine for all students, faculty and staff. According to Deb DiCaprio, Vice President of Student Affairs, Marist will hold periodic flu vaccine clinics on campus to help the community access the shot.

In an email to the student body, DiCaprio acknowledged a newer health threat to the campus, monkeypox. “We are closely monitoring updates from the State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) regarding monkeypox,” wrote DiCaprio. Anyone who believes they have been exposed to monkeypox or are experiencing symptoms should contact their health provider for next steps.

DiCaprio also shared that Health Services has moved to the third floor of the Murray Student Center and can be reached at (845) 575-3270. Counseling Services for mental and psychological help is now located on the first floor of Midrise. Support is available Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. In the event of an emergency, counselors are available 24/7 by calling (845) 471-1822.
