Marist University has been named the 150th best college/university in the U.S., according to the 2026 version of the Wall Street Journal’s annual ranking of American institutions of higher education.
“We’re proud that ‘The Wall Street Journal’ has once again recognized Marist as a place where students gain the knowledge, skills, and real-world experiences that empower them to succeed,” said Sean Kaylor, vice president of Enrollment Management.
Kaylor pointed out that the rankings placed Marist ahead of some notable institutions, including Boston University, Drexel University, Syracuse University and Fordham University.
“The data that creates the list is compiled based on a survey of students and alumni, so it’s especially meaningful,” said Kaylor.
Kaylor believes the ranking will serve as another well-deserved boost to the school and all of its programs.
“This recognition reinforces Marist’s reputation as a nationally respected institution that delivers strong outcomes for students,” he said. “Rankings like these validate the quality of our academic programs and experiential learning opportunities, which can influence prospective students and families during the college search process. It also strengthens our position in conversations with employers, graduate schools, and partners who value institutions that consistently prepare graduates for success.”
Kaylor also pointed out that Marist has received some other accolades in recent times. “U.S. News and World Report” named Marist the ninth best school in their “North” region, which includes all of New England as well as New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. They also placed Marist fifth for “Best Undergraduate Teaching” within the region and 18th in the region’s “Most Innovative School” category. “Money” named Marist in their “Best Colleges” ranking, while “The Princeton Review” tabbed Marist as one of the “50 Colleges that Create Futures.” They also placed Marist in the top 25 for “Most Beautiful Campus” and “Best Athletic Facilities.” Most notably, “Open Doors” named Marist’s study abroad program the best in the nation among schools that offer master’s degrees for the third year running.
For Kaylor, though, none of this comes as a surprise.
“Marist is increasingly recognized as a university that combines academic rigor with a strong commitment to student success and career readiness. Our consistent performance in national rankings and our graduates’ achievements speak volumes,” he said. “We occupy a respected space among institutions that prioritize both intellectual growth and practical preparation for life after college.”
Kaylor identified “continued investment in high-impact practices” such as internships, research and international collaboration as ways in which the school could continue to strengthen its case on the national stage.
“The more we share the transformative experiences happening here, the more Marist will be recognized as a university that delivers outcomes that truly matter,” said Kaylor.
For Kaylor and Marist leadership at large, though, commitment to continually bettering and promoting Marist encompasses much more than any number or title.
“Our focus isn’t solely on the number,” Kaylor said. “It’s ensuring that every student receives an education that prepares them to thrive personally and professionally.”
