Adrianna DaRosa ‘29 was recently elected as the Student Government Association (SGA) president for the class of 2029.

DaRosa is no stranger to student council; the freshman was heavily involved in student government in high school, up to the state level, where she served as vice president of the regional board of the Southeastern Massachusetts Association of Student Councils.

“I just enjoyed connecting with students and bringing people together, and I just think that making an impact on the grade is just such a big deal to me,” she said. “I really enjoy doing things like this, and it makes me feel like more of a part of the community.”

There, the business administration major would lead workshops, plan conferences and speak in front of crowds of 500 students. She hopes to bring the experience she gained in high school to her leadership role at the university level.

For her first initiative, DaRosa and her board will host a Halloween bake sale on Friday, Oct. 31, and they are planning a freshman dance for the future, due to a response from other freshmen that they miss having dances from high school.

Although DaRosa has only been here for two months, she is heavily involved on campus outside of SGA. She’s a member of the Women in Business Club and an ambassador looking to become a tour guide on campus in the future.

She is also in the National Society of Leadership and Success Program and the Emerging Leaders Program, which coincides with her goals to spread leadership experience throughout the freshman class.

“I think it would be good to get people involved in leadership to help people with internships, clubs and jobs,” she said.

DaRosa also works as a Media Associate at the Marist Poll, where she designs logos and media newsletters, and participates in intramural volleyball.

Though she is very well adjusted to college life, DaRosa admitted that she was very unsure of where she was looking to further her education until she visited Marist University.

“[The campus] was just beautiful, and I saw so many opportunities, especially in the community,” she said.

As a Massachusetts native, Marist is three hours away from home. DaRosa didn't see that as a problem - rather, it became an opening for new opportunities.

“I wanted to start new and really just do more with my life. Not many people go here from where I'm from, so it does feel like a new beginning, and in some sense, a chance to try new things and everything,” she said.

Among the many opportunities Marist offered during the first week on campus, DaRosa said she already connected with a lot of people.

“I have found it easy to connect to people, and I think that the events on campus do a great job of bringing people together,” DaRosa said. “That's also part of why I want to join SGA; to continue to make those events and to bring people together.”
