Local Individual Arrested After Disturbance on Campus
An individual was arrested earlier today outside the Murray Student Center by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
“The individual who created the disturbance at the Student Center today suffers from mental illness and substance abuse and has an extensive history of creating similar disturbances in the City of Poughkeepsie and neighboring towns,” said Dan Gough, director of campus safety.
The incident began in Fusco Hall in the student center, where the man was in an admissions information session, before Marist Security arrived and brought him outside.
It happened just before activity hour, as many students were outside in the surrounding area after finishing their morning classes; other passing campus tours of prospective students may have witnessed the incident as well.
The individual, who is not a student at Marist, seemed to be under the influence of drugs, posing a safety concern for himself and others
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department quickly responded to the event and placed the individual under arrest. This individual also has previous trespass dispositions.
The Marist Circle will continue to provide updates as any additional information becomes public.
