Former Marist Student Pleads Guilty to 15 Felony Counts in Dyson Camera Case

Kyle Petrozzi, a former Marist University student who was originally scheduled to graduate in 2025, pleaded guilty to 15 counts of second-degree unlawful surveillance after placing cameras in gender-neutral bathrooms in the Dyson Center. Dutchess County Court is scheduled to sentence Petrozzi on Sept. 16, 2026.

“The defendant’s actions represented a serious and disturbing invasion of privacy and a violation of the trust and sense of security that every person deserves, particularly in places where privacy is expected,” said Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi. “By secretly recording individuals without their knowledge or consent, the defendant victimized multiple people and caused understandable fear and distress.”

Petrozzi pleaded guilty to 15 counts of second-degree unlawful surveillance, a Class E felony under New York State law.

Notably, Petrozzi was expelled prior to his guilty plea; his expulsion from Marist came before any criminal conviction. According to the Dutchess County DA’s Office, Petrozzi admitted that he placed and operated the cameras without a legitimate purpose.

According to the DA’s office, Petrozzi placed and operated cameras in gender-neutral bathrooms on the second, third and fourth floors of Dyson between April 27 and May 10, 2025. One of the cameras was discovered on May 10 and reported to Marist Campus Safety, prompting an investigation.

“I want to thank the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and Marist University officials for their diligent work and cooperation in this case,” Parisi said.

Petrozzi is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Jessica Segal in Dutchess County Court on Sept. 16, 2026.
