A24 Releases Trailer for “You Can See Everything” with Theranos’ Elizabeth Holmes at Center Stage

A24 released an official teaser for “"You Can See Everything", a documentary film following the story of Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of the private health technology company Theranos. The teaser was uploaded to YouTube on September 6th, already garnering over 7 million views. The documentary was created by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the minds that brought us works like “How To with John Wilson” and “Some Kind of Heaven”. With their collaboration debut, the new documentary’s trailer has taken the internet by storm.

The story of Elizabeth Holmes and her brain-child Theranos is one that brings public polarization. Holmes founded Theranos in 2003, as a 19 year old Stanford student. The company, a portmanteau of "therapy" and "diagnosis", claimed it could run hundreds of medical tests using only a small amount of blood. The company quickly shot into success, attracting billions of dollars from investors who truly believed Holmes had created a revolutionary way to test blood. However, it was eventually discovered that Theranos’ technology did not actually work the way Holmes claimed it did, and the company was using traditional machines for many of its tests. Holmes continued to defend the company, even as former employees and journalists raised concerns about the technology and the accuracy of its results. Theranos eventually shut down in 2018, and Holmes was charged with fraud for misleading investors about the company. In 2022, she was convicted of fraud and sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison.

This documentary follows Holmes in her residence, set just 34 days before she was sent to federal prison. Fielder and Oppenheim give viewers a never-before-seen look into the life and mind of Holmes, as well as her partner Billy Evans. The trailer is only one minute and seventeen seconds long, and mostly consists of an intimate conversation between Holmes and Fielder, where Holmes gazes into his eyes and says,

“Of course I'm not deceiving you.”

She then continues, “Why would I deceive you? There’s no reason for me to do that,” to which Fielder then replies, “Okay. Alright. Okay, good chat.” As the pair continue to nod their heads in a state of hesitant agreement.

Fielder then asks, “You’re being real right now?” and Holmes replies with, “I’m always being real.”

The camera pans out to feature the two locked in heavy eye contact, as Holmes is rocking her baby, Invicta, with her foot.

The entire trailer features an incredible sense of dread and tension. During their conversation, the baby is heard cooing in the background and the music drones on, creating an uncomfortable strain. The trailer was met with raving reviews and awe from the public, with an insatiable hunger for the release of more footage.

The film is set to release in theatres in October of this year.
