LdMBiennale Venice Program

Students work in a studio all summer in Venice, Italy

This past summer, fourteen students participated in the LdMBiennale program in Venice, Italy, headed by Professor Ed Smith. Being selected after submitting art portfolios, among other application materials, the students spent the duration of the month of June working in a studio on Giudecca island. Twice a week they took an art history class and explored the pavilions of the Biennale, a biennial art festival featuring a “world’s fair” style of pavilions with artists representing their respective countries. The students had the rest of the week with open studio time to produce works to be featured in an extension of the Biennale itself hosted in the LdM studio space. The exhibition was open for June 26 and 27 and was curated by Sydney Kysar ’21 and Alessia Amato ’20. Featured (above or below) is Kysar painting in her studio space and a piece done by Amato titled Washed Out.
