Here to Help: Meet the Workers Who Keep the Campus Running
There are various resources around campus where students can get involved, and sometimes, it just takes a helping hand to know exactly where to go for what they need.
From the library to the registrar in Donnelly, there is help available for students with everything they need.
Marist University’s mission statement is, “Develop the intellect, character, and skills required for enlightened, ethical, and productive lives in the global community of the 21st century." Marist staff strive to assist all students with whatever they may need.
Registrar
“We’re friendly, please come in if you have any questions. If we can answer, we will answer, and if not, we will point you in the right direction,” said Registrar Head Michael Lewis.
Lewis explained that as long as a student can explain their needs, the staff in the Registrar's Office is more than willing to help with schedule changes, registration, transcripts and transfer credits. The registrar's office is the office that will help students throughout their college career.
“I really like to see the students when they first come in, and we get to confirm their degrees,” said Lewis. “I am also on stage at graduation, which really makes me enjoy my job. We are genuinely here to help and try our best to get students what they need. I have the opportunity to give guidance to the students from freshman year to senior year.”
Sophia Santoros’s ‘28 favorite resource office on campus has been the Registrar's Office, as they have helped her to make the schedule she needs to be successful.
“They helped me switch a class I needed to switch three times, and they’re so nice and helpful there,” said Santoro.
Financial Aid Office
The Financial Aid Office is where students can attend if they need help with their finances. If students or parents have questions, they can call or walk into the office located in Donnelly 200.
“We help with everything: student employment, financial aid, and loans. The left side of the office is loans, and the right side of the office is financial aid,” said Student Financial Services assistant Christa Costello.
Accommodations Services Office
Just across the hall from the registrar's office in Donnelly 226 is the Accommodation and Accessibility Services. If students have a disability, they can find guidance through the Office of Accommodations so that they feel more secure. The Accommodations Office may help with any academic or physical resources a student may need throughout their education.
“We are here to help with any accommodations. Students don’t realize they can come for parking, dining, general accommodations, service animals or seek counseling,” said Accommodations assistant Jackie Garzione.
The Tutoring Center
For students who have access to accommodation services or may just want a tutor once in a while, the tutoring center is on the library's second floor. The tutoring center is there if students need their papers proofread or if they need to review a particular topic. There are review sessions for science courses, general chemistry, organic chemistry, bio and also drop-in tutoring for many math, business core and computer science courses.
“The grand goal of the tutoring center is to help students perfect their knowledge. Not every student uses it because they are failing and there is a wide variety for academic improvement,” said Tutoring Center assistant, Elizabeth Mulligan.
Library Resources
Located in the library are the front desk workers and the reference desk. Students can ask any questions regarding writing research papers or citing sources at the reference desk. The library front desk is where students can check out books or ask questions about using the printers in the library.
“The quiet study room downstairs is an underused resource that many students do not know about. The air conditioning is really good there, and I love getting work done,” said Sidney Pochey ‘26.
Residents Assistants Office
Outside of the front desk, there are workers in offices around campus. The resident assistants are vital resources for students to be aware of. There is a residence assistant on every floor of every residence building. A student can get in touch with their residence assistant through Group Me, Remind, or email, based on what their resident assistant would like to use.
“We are basically like their parents. We will try our best to help in our best way possible. It's like having an older brother or sister around the building, always there to help,” said RA Joseph Bryan Esefo-Boakye ‘26.
