Whether this is your first year here or you are heading into your final fall semester at Marist University, you can always count on campus to have the best hidden gems to explore. If you find yourself bored and curiosity strikes, here are six of the best must see, must do’s on campus before you graduate!

Fern Tor Nature Preserve

On the North end of campus, there is a short, secluded walking trail called Fern Tor. It is a great way to get in touch with nature after a hard day or just to walk with friends.

The Campus Green

Though not very hidden, the hill in the center of campus is a hotspot for activities. In the snowy months, you will find students sledding down the green with anything they can find; between garbage bags, pieces of cardboard and cheap Job Lot sleds. When the weather gets warm again, the green fills up with blankets and chairs as students do their work, have a catch or try to get a tan. The green is a great place to take in the beautiful view, mingle, study or take a roll down!

“Rolling down the hill during any month is my favorite activity. You have to do it at least once while you are here.” -El Raiford ‘27
Rotunda A Capella Concerts

If you were to pass by the rotunda on specific nights of the school year, you may find yourself running into our a cappella groups putting on a free concert. You can listen as you pass by, or take a seat on the bench and stay the whole time.

“I came to support my friend in her acapella group, and left being in awe of what all of these groups can truly do.” - Nicoletta Amato ‘28

Yoga/Pilates

In need of a relaxing or heart-pumping workout? In the McCann Gym, there are free yoga and pilates classes to sign up for. These classes are run by some of our very own students, or professionals in the field. After a long day, sometimes it is nice to get your blood running in pilates, or take some deserving deep breaths in a yoga class.

The River/Longview Park

At Marist, one of the greatest appeals is having the Hudson River on our campus. The walk by the river is a majestic view to have a picnic, tan or even see the northern lights at rare times! It is a great place to clear your head or get some work done.

The river is my go-to place to clear my head, and I love how accessible it is to students. The moving water helps to ground me and allows me to find peace of mind.” - Liv Kutcher ‘28

Hancock Patio

Many students pass by the Hancock Center every day, but are unaware of the patio behind it with an amazing view of the river.

“It is a gorgeous spot with such a beautiful sunset view. It is also a bit private, and you’re right next to math labs if you need help!” said Jackie Dobbs ‘28.
