Student Life At Marist

College is quite possibly the best time to truly find out how to properly express yourself that one will ever have. It’s many people’s first time away from home, and the first time you are truly forced out of your comfort zone for an extended period of time. So the question lies: What opportunities does Marist University have to offer?

Well, college is a perfect time to explore different interests, hobbies and passions. Marist University offers more than 100 clubs and organizations, which offer both learning and personal growth opportunities that are not found in the classroom. Additionally, each club presents different opportunities to expand your intellectual self and social life.

Clubs are intended to allow students to express themselves beyond the standard classroom. Joining club sport teams, political-based clubs, clubs that affiliate with your future career or eventually even fraternities and sororities when the time comes, are all great ways to expand your social circle and meet people with similar interests and passions as you.

Within the first few weeks of the semester, an activity fair will take place where students can go table-to-table and meet members of multiple clubs. During this time, you are encouraged to ask questions and sign up for any and all activities that pique your interest even slightly. Signing up for a club doesn’t entail your full commitment, but it makes sure your foot is in the door.

Clubs aren’t the only way to meet people on campus; Marist also offers a multitude of student activities on and off campus. Every so often, Marist offers $25 NFL, NHL and MLB games, ski trips and Broadway show tickets (transportation included) on a first-come, first-served basis. Marist is also known for having on-campus special guests such as Sarah Sherman from SNL, Gary Coleman, A$AP Ferg and The Driver Era.

Marist students are also notorious for taking advantage of the vibrant and beautiful campus. When the weather permits, you will always find Red Foxes set up in front of the rotunda on the Marist Green catching some sun with their friends, sitting on Adirondack chairs under trees, playing spikeball, reading outside of the library and so much more.

Overall, Marist offers an extremely personal and interconnected way of life that is easy to adapt to if you let yourself do so. So don’t be afraid to attend that club meeting you aren’t so sure about, go on that trip only you got a ticket for or ask some people from your classes to hang out on the green. Take advantage of your new home-away-from-home; there is no place like Marist University!
